Opinions about paper use are changing. Wood fibre is one of the few truly renewable and recyclable raw materials we have. By planting new trees we will ensure future generations have the ability to produce paper, without a negative impact on the environment. By working with recognised government and non-governmental organisations paper use and disposal can be energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

Making paper plays a large part in forest sustainability
It is in the interests of the paper manufacturers to replace every tree that is cut down and generally more trees (3 or 4) are planted to replace every tree that is felled and used for paper making.
Certified forests are managed to ensure long term timber supplies while protecting the environment and the lives of forest-dependent animals and people.
The main cause of mass deforestation is either for agriculture or for domestic fuel requirements, not paper production, which between them, account for almost half of the trees cut down worldwide.
Forest certification promotes wood from managed forests..

It requires more energy to make recycled paper than new paper
Recycling paper consumes energy in the collection, transportation, mechanical preparation and the chemical pulping process. The de-inking, cleaning and re-manufacturing of recycled paper uses further energy.
Making virgin paper has a net release of energy which can be used for many purposes including heating, lighting in commercial and domestic environments.

Recycled paper can carry more chemicals than virgin paper from sustainable forests.
Recycled paper cannot be classed as chlorine free because you can never guarantee the source of all recycled fibres. Many recycled papers contain chlorine from used papers that were subjected to secondary bleaching when they were originally made.
Many virgin fibre papers carry a ‘totally chlorine free’ (TCF) or ‘elemental chlorine free’ (ECF) environmental label.
The vast majority of virgin paper is now chlorine free.

European forests are actually growing as a result of paper production
Because of strict rules and guidelines, managed forests are directly contributing to the growth of European forests, therefore encouraging more wildlife to inhabit these areas and directly reducing CO2 emissions on a long term basis.
To earn certification an organization must first adapt its management and operations to conform to all applicable requirements.
Corporate social responsibility issues are becoming a core component of corporate brands. Dealing responsibly with your company’s footprint cannot only reduce risk, but can enhance your brand if you walk the walk and know how to talk about it.
The right to use certification logos on your print products tells the world that you support the highest social and environmental standards in the market where you use paper.
Young trees grow quicker than mature trees (mature trees reach their maximum size then stop growing taller) as a consequence the young trees are taking in more carbon dioxide to make both wood and leaves, mature trees only require the carbon dioxide for leaves.

Managed forest approved paper is more cost effective than recycled paper
The recycling process carries a premium and therefore recycled papers are generally more expensive than their managed forest counterparts.
While recycled fibre is a key element of the traditional model for responsible consumption, it is becoming increasingly clear that forest management in the production of the wood used in paper manufacturing has more fundamental importance than even recycled fibre.
The number of processes needed to recycle paper into an acceptable grade for office and domestic bright white paper are infinitely larger than recycling for packaging, boxes and lesser grade products where visual appeal is less important, thus using less energy, chemicals and manufacturing processes.
